International Environmental Training & Technology Center
As the first design-build project for the city of Dallas, this waste-management training facility and landfill learning lab is the cornerstone of an eco-center expected to encourage hundreds of jobs to come to a traditionally underserved area. In keeping with the environmental mission of the project, Omniplan used 'green' building practices that helped this plan achieve LEED (Leadership in Energy in Environmental Design) Silver certification. Recycled materials were used during construction wherever feasible; trees were planted on the east and west sides to shade the building from the harsh Texas sun; and the building's shape and orientation were fine-tuned to allow for ambient natural lighting without excessive glare or heat gain.
